July 14, 2012

Sustenance_thumbFollowing a Line: A Contemporary Embroidery WorkshopBenalla Art Gallery: Botanical Gardens, Bridge Street, Benalla Saturday 1st August 2015 12:30PM - 3:30PM Price: $25 gallery members $30 non-members Bookings essential: 03 5760 2619

Explore embroidery’s capacity for drawing and communication in this afternoon workshop. Approached as a narrative drawing medium, embroidery can encourage reflection and provide expression for personal or political narratives. Participants will be encouraged to follow a line of inquiry with a line of drawn thread. A simple stitch or two can offer a fresh approach to handwriting and figurative mark making. Materials provided. No prior experience necessary.

Ilka also gives a (free) Artist's Talk in the morning from 11am – 12pm, August 1st.

This workshop accompanies the touring exhibition 'Slipstitch' showing at Benalla from 3rd Jul – 30th Aug 2015. An Ararat Regional Art Gallery and NETS Victoria touring exhibition, curated by Dr Belinda von Mengersen
